Mayor Tarah Probst endorsed by AFL-CIO for Pennsylvania’s 40th Senatorial District
Stroudsburg, PA – Stroudsburg Mayor Tarah Probst, Democratic nominee for Pennsylvania’s 40th Senatorial District, today announced her endorsement by the Pennsylvania AFL-CIO, the largest federation of labor unions in the state. The endorsement by the Pennsylvania AFL-CIO, which represents 51 affiliated Labor Unions and approximately 700,000 union members, follows a previously announced endorsement by the Carpenters Local Union 445—providing Mayor Probst major grassroots support entering the General Election.
“Mayor Tarah Probst is a committed advocate for workers’ rights,” said Pennsylvania AFL-CIO President Rick Bloomingdale. “We know that Tarah will take her experiences with working families in the State Senate. We are proud to endorse a strong candidate who is committed to raising wages for Pennsylvanians and creating good jobs in our Commonwealth.”
The endorsement by the Pennsylvania AFL-CIO for Mayor Tarah Probst in the 40th Senatorial comes in contrast to its 2014 general election endorsements, when now-incumbent Republican Mario Scavello received the AFL-CIO’s backing. A candidate must receive an affirmative vote of more than two-thirds to secure the endorsement of the state federation, illustrating the united labor backing for Mayor Probst against Mario Scavello.
“I am honored to receive the endorsement from the AFL-CIO, and will do everything in my power to protect worker’s rights, prevailing wages, and the ideals of Pennsylvania’s labor movement,” said Mayor Probst. “Organized labor provides apprenticeships and job opportunities that produce a skilled Pennsylvania work force. Union workers create quality products with quality wages, are the lifeblood of our economy, and are the path to rebuilding the middle class in the 40th Senatorial District.”
Tarah Probst is an East Stroudsburg native, was recently re-elected Stroudsburg Mayor in 2017 (the first woman to hold the position in its 200-year history), and is the Democratic nominee for the Pennsylvania’s 40th senatorial district.
